Northern Lights Wind Quintet
As part of Music in Lanark’s commitment to music education we are delighted to welcome the Northern Lights Wind Quintet to participate in our concert for young musicians. Performing regularly as part of Yehudi Menuhin’s charitable scheme ‘Live Music Now’, Northern Lights introduce young people across Scotland to live classical music and demonstrate how music and music making is entertaining and accessible to all by combining great live music with interactive elements. The Northern Lights Wind Quintet comprise of five highly talented musicians who got together at the RSAMD in 2009 and have won numerous prestigious awards. Together they thrive on live performance and there is sure to be an interactive element to this concert.

Euan Stevenson on piano with equally talented musicians supporting on bass and drums. The trio’s
work always goes down with jazz aficionados and was recently described by BBC Radio Scotland as
being “Stunning stuff, emanating joy.” We couldn’t agree more.

A concert jam packed with iconic cabaret songs and musical pieces brought to you by no fewer than nine musicians, four singers and one conductor. The highly talented cast will take the audience on a journey from dingy 1900’s Berlin to glitzy Broadway with a few stops along the way via Paris, London and Buenos Aires. This is an absolute must see.

Concerto Caledonia
Concerto Caledonia is Scotland’s early music group, bringing to life the classical and traditional music of the nation’s history. The group’s 7 CD recordings include Robert Burns songs in their original versions, classical symphonies from Fife, early Scots fiddle music, and the unique sound of 18th-century Scottish-Italian crossover. Its contemporary recordings include music by Frank Zappa, Astor Piazzolla, Daniel Johnston and The Buzzcocks. The album Mungrel Stuff was a Sunday Times Record of the Year, and besides appearing regularly on BBC Radio 3, the group has also been broadcast on Radios 1, 2, and 4.

Anna Massie and Mairearad Green

Equally at home as accompanist or melody player, Anna Massie is one of Scotland’s foremost guitarists since winning the Young Traditional Musician award in 2003. A skilled multi-instrumentalist, she also excels on the fiddle, mandolin and banjo.
Mairearad Green was Winner of the PRS Composer of the Year award at the 2009 MG Alba Scots Music Awards and is renowned for her deft and lyrical accordion style. Mairearad is one of Scotland’s finest musical exports and is in great demand as a performer and composer..

Nemtsov Duo
Brother and sister Mikhail (cello) and Elena (piano) were born into a musical family in St. Petersburg, Russia and
from early childhood have always played music together. Both studied at the Rimsky-Korsakov Special Music School
Lyceum for no fewer than eleven years. Both now study at the RNCM in Manchester. As winners of the 2010
Tunnell Trust Award, Mikhail and Elena are looking forward to playing six recitals in Scotland, including
one for us in New Lanark.
